First Step for Change, a diocesan-wide effort to collect spare change (or dollars) in refillable plastic baby bottles, helps provide food, clothing, diapers and other “baby essentials” to the low-income pregnant women and families served by our Catholic Charities agencies across the diocese. Last year, we raised our highest amount ever of $85,814.00 from a record number of 58 participating parishes!
Can we count on YOU to support the 2017 First Step for Change campaign?
The “nickels and dimes” of the project are listed below:
WHO: You! Does First Step for Change really make a difference? Yes! Last year, we assisted 2,188 households through our First Step Pregnancy and Family Support Programs
across the diocese. CLICK HERE to learn more.
WHEN: October 1 – October 29. (October is designated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as “Respect Life Month”)
WHERE: Parishes across the Diocese of Youngstown
WHY: To provide material assistance (food, formula, diapers, clothing and other essentials) to low-income pregnant women and families with children ages 0-3.
HOW: Participating parishes request enough baby bottles for each parish family to take home, fill with spare change (or dollars), and return to the parish the weekend of October 29.
Parish staff or volunteers count the change and send one check to Catholic Charities. Bottles can be kept at the parish for use the following year.
If you are interested in participating in this pro-life project that supports women, children and families, CLICK HERE to access the participation form and return it by September 15, 2017. Only one form is needed per parish.
