Michael’s Story

Share with friends!

My name is Michael. I was recently laid off from my job as a roofer.  My wife and I have four children with another on the way.  When we first visited Catholic Charities, we were desperate. My family had no food and we were completely out of supplies for the baby.  I was ashamed to admit this, but our youngest was wearing a homemade diaper consisting of paper towels and duct tape. We had no money for food or diapers.

When we met with the caseworker at Catholic Charities, she did not make us feel bad or embarrassed. She actually complimented our creative solution! She immediately gave us diapers, wipes, formula and a few other basic baby necessities. Through a special program, Catholic Charities was even able to help with a few items for the baby on the way.  We were even provided food from the pantry to tide us over and some healthy, not to mention budget-friendly recipes. Now, please don’t tell my wife I said so, but she really could use some new recipes!

I am hoping to be called back to work soon; but I felt a sense of relief and gratitude with the help provided by Catholic Charities.
