Africa Campaign: Africa Rising, Hope and Healing
Catholic Relief Services launched the Africa Campaign: Africa Rising, Hope and Healingin 2001. Africa Rising Hope and Healing invites Catholics in the U.S. to stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Africa through prayer, dialogue and advocacy.
In November of 2001, the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops authored a pastoral statement A Call to Solidarity with Africa that challenges the Catholic church in the U.S. to support the Catholic church in Africa in its efforts to work for peace, justice and development on the continent.
WHAT CAN SCHOOLS AND RELIGIOUS EDUCATORS DO?
Together with a talented group of secondary educators who participated in CRS Frontiers of Justice program, we have combined the challenges of A Call to Solidarity with Africa and Africa Rising to create concrete resources for your secondary school. The resources include an Africa Retreat, a School-Wide Program, and HIV/AIDS Curriculum.
CRS Programs for Secondary Educators

Operation Rice Bowl – CRS’ Lenten program for all ages!

WHAT ELSE CAN I OR MY PARISH DO?
Visit the USCCB website on the Church in Africa for updates and ideas/resources.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Responds to East African Famine
East Africa’s worst drought in more than half a century is causing extreme hunger for more than 11 million people. Severe lack of rainfall has resulted in failed crops, critical shortages in food and water, and countless numbers of livestock dying from dehydration and starvation. Further compounding the crisis are drastic increases in food prices.
All this brings to mind sobering images from the Ethiopian famine of 1984. This time is different. This time, we know what is likely to come as the disaster unfolds. Please help Catholic Relief Services with a generous gift so that CRS can quickly increase their efforts there to feed and provide water to as many needy people as possible.
Help prevent another tragedy. CRS has been working in East Africa since 1960 providing emergency relief and long term development assistance.
