The Diocesan Office of Social Action is involved with important initiatives to reduce poverty.

Nationally, 36.5 million people live in poverty, and Catholic Charities agencies serve more than 7.8 million people each year.  How can you help Catholic Charities reach its goal of reducing poverty in half by the year 2020?  Visit the Catholic Charities USA website at www.catholiccharitiesusa.org and endorse the Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America.  Check this website often for updates on what Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Youngstown is doing to eliminate local poverty.

POVERTY WORSENS, TENS OF MILLIONS PEOPLE IMPACTED

Over 46 million people in the U.S. live in poverty.  This is the largest number in the 52 years for which poverty estimates have been published.  Perhaps most alarming of all is that nearly one in four children in the United States lives in poverty, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

To learn about what the Catholic Church is saying and doing about this situation and about a related initiative and local participation, contact Brian Corbin.
